Tara Darby

Tara brings a unified, documentary approach to her work, whether shooting portraiture, reportage, still life or fashion.  Her images are intimate and personal and show a strong connection with her subject.  With particular attention to lighting and location her photographs and films capture atmospheric, unguarded moments and have a strong sense of time and place.

Her recent Literary Journeys have been serialised by AnOther magazine, pairing her own writing with her images.  The first journey took her to Kansas on the trail of Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood and the second to Alabama inspired by Carson McCuller’s novel The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.

In her 2011 book Waves, published by Oodee, Tara’s words and images tell the story of her grandparents’ loves and losses and the lasting impact they have had on her. The first edition has sold out.

Tara Darby grew up on the West Sussex coast; the sea is a recurrent theme in her work.

Tara has exhibited at Transition Gallery, the Dazed and Confused Gallery, Paul Smith’s Globe, Yinka Shinobare’s Space, Printspace and the Printhouse Gallery. She lives in Hackney, London.
