Steve Harries

Steve constructs cinematic atmospheres and believable realities. His interest in film led him to shoot Location and his project Cinema, on which he worked with set designer Nicola Yeoman to recreate the look of iconic productions through simple totemic objects. Steve is fascinated by spaces and their stories, whether evident or as a hidden layer, and how people interact with them. His ideas are as instinctual as his approach is methodical - investigating the process before bringing his vision to life. Steve is currently making a visual piece (photography and film) on the mechanics and athleticism of the body. An exploration of motion showing multiple facets in the same image, featuring Olympic hopeful Kat Driscoll, it will be exclusively premiered on Nowness during the London Olympics 2012 before being screened at the Curzon cinema, Mayfair.

Born in Devon in 1972, Steve now lives in London. He graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1994 with a first-class honours degree in graphic design and was invited to return as a lecturer there from 1999 to 2006.

His photographs of skaters in their urban playgrounds, Reading Lines, was published in 2007 and exhibited nationwide, closely followed by Location, which travelled to the Format International Photography Festival in 2009. Awards include Best in Book, Creative Review Photography Annual 2011.
