Central to Jan’s practice is the fashion picture as portrait. With an interest in realism, Jan cares about the dynamic with his subjects and strives to capture an intimacy in his images through an honest two-way exchange. For Jan, it’s about finding unintentional moments and harnessing these to create images with authenticity. Considered and elegant, Jan’s images possess a timeless quality. With an eye for formal details and careful attention to composition, Jan captures a visual balance in each image he creates. Born in Heidelberg in southwest Germany, Jan studied photography at university before honing his craft in Paris. After moving to London, where he currently lives and works, Jan assisted David Sims and in 2012, Jan set up as a photographer in his own right. With a portfolio that sits between fashion and portrait photography, Jan’s editorial clients include: i-D, Rika, New York Times T Magazine, British Vogue, Interview Germany, Wallpaper* and such commercial clients as: Theory, Mugler, Rag & Bone, Jason Wu, La Perla & Hugo Boss.
